After a long time, talented actor Saurabh Shukla took director' s chair with Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi? And as expected the movie is making buzz because of its famous and incredible lead cast including Vinay Pathak and Rajat Kapoor. However, this time the buzz is also about Neha Dhupia, who has looked sensational in the film. With each film, she is emerging as a new wave girl in Bollywood.
Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi? is a story about relationships. One night Rahul (Rajat Kapoor), the protagonist goes to one party along with his wife Mitali [Irawati Harshe Mayadev] and two friends Saxena [Dalip Tahil] and Amit [Vinay Pathak] and their wives, where he meets a lovely and sensuous single woman Sophia (Neha Dhupia). Then sparks fly between them and then follows is the hide and seek game between the two. And he doesn' t remember what happened after that. He is then clueless whether something happened between him and the mysterious woman last night.
Then obliviously, his wife Mitali gets in bad mood. On the other hand, he tries to find out what happened last night. His friends Saxena and Amit, who are already facing marital problems in their own life, come forward to sort out things. Realizing that nothing is solving the puzzle, Rahul finally decides to meet Sophia again.
You might compare the film with The Hangover or Basu Chatterjee' s Shaukeen, but RGBG has some surprising elements that completely make it different from those films. Making an adult comedy is a tough task and director Saurabh Shukla has attempted it. However, what takes down the film is bad screenplay, written by Saurabh Shukla and Rajat Kapoor. The film starts with the bang, but becomes slow later except the last 20 minutes sequence where answers keep pouring in. RAAT GAYI, BAAT GAYI? definitely gives you some funny moments, but on a whole it' s not a fun unlimited. Music by Ankur Tewari is ok. However, cinematography by Fuwad Khan is good.
The top honour of the film is nothing but flawless performances by its lead cast. Like as always, Rajat and Vinay performed their role with ease. Meanwhile, other actors - Dalip Tahil, Irawati Harshe Mayadev, Anu Menon, Navniit Nisshan, Aamir Bashir and Neha Dhupia - also gave fine performances. However, the film also includes cameo appearances by Ranvir Shorey, Sudhir Mishra and Makrand Deshpande.
Conclusively, RAAT GAYI, BAAT GAYI? is a one time watch film. Give it one chance to watch fine performances by Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor and the sensational Neha Dhupia. Rangita Pritish Nandy, Rajat Kapoor
