Aao Wish Karein showcases the irony of kid when he is a kid, he wants to grow up quick and when he grows up he wants go back to his childhood. This is a fairy tale and a line in the film says that if you want to be part of a fairy tale then believe in it first. But the film didn' t work up to the fact fairy tale. The writer should have run wild considering that it is a fairy tale, instead they wrote it in a very safe way.
One more fallback of the film is that the film is kidult, which is not targeted to either kids or the youth. The subject of the film is not new to us. AAO WISH KAREIN seems like inspired from the Hollywood film BIG [1988] starring Tom Hanks. Also Bollywood has handled the same subject before with CHANDRAMUKHI starring Salman Khan and Sridevi. One more thing that such films should be backed by big stars that can make you believes in fairy tales. However the film sure has some endearing moments but not enough to entertain you entirely.
Mickey is a 12-year-old kid, whose life is nothing less than fairy tale as he has a beautiful family, good friend Bonnie and his angel Mitika [Aamna Sharif]. One day, Mickey gets upset when he comes to know that he is adopted child and when his angel calls him a kid. When the upset Mickey was sat alone, a Hitchcock [Johny Lever] appears. Mickey demands the Hitchcock to make him big. The miracle happens but it is a blessing or a curse?
One more thing which doesn' t convince you is that when the protagonist was a kid he loves a woman, while the moment when he turns out as big he starts behaving like a child. That' s why there is no chance for romance in the film or if it happens then it' s not exciting. The writing could have been better by making the grown up act like a grown up. The climax of the film is good, but the film entirely doesn' t entertain you. The imagination of the writers could have run wild for a fairy tale film like Aao Wish Karein.
Glen Barretto has directed some scenes very well like the one with Aftab and Johny Lever. He also has captured the beauty of Himachal Pradesh and Goa very well. Music is good but seems like it doesn' t promoted well. Cinematography by Keshav Prakash is admirable.
Aftab enacted the character very perfectly. He has enacted it so well that he looks like a kid. Aamna look fabulous. Performance by Johny Lever is top notch. Other actors like Rati Agnihotri, Yatin Karyekar are good. Kids have added good energy to the film. The film also has special appearance by Riteish Deshmukh.
Conclusively, although AAO WISH KAREIN has good moments in some parts, it doesn' t hold your interest on whole. Aftab Shivdasani
