Like all his previous realistic films, director Madhur Bhandarkar has one more time created the magic with Jail. In Jail, he has shown you the world which most of us are unaware. However the same thing might go against it. The film is serous, realistic and some times depressing. So people who like light and happy ending films might ignore the film. However, Madhur who created his own niche in the industry has convincingly depicted the life inside bars. For sure the director has got the courage to unveil reality with new topic each time. And for which he has got fan base too. One who loved Madhur' s previous attempts should also watch Jail.
Jail is a shocking reality and which is also a thought provoking. All the protagonists from Madhur' s films received great applaud for their performance. So in Jail too, all the main characters have performed brilliantly. Many filmmakers before depicted a prisoner‘s life with films like Teen Deewarein (2003), Ek Hasina Thi (2004), and Undertrial (2007). But, Madhur' s film is different.
Jail tells story of Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh) whose life is nothing less than a dream. He has got a great job and a beautiful girlfriend. However his life becomes a hell when sequences lead him to Jail. He is innocent and helpless. The only person who believes that he is not guilty is a convict, Nawab (Manoj Bajpayee). Now, Parag is left with only two choices- one to accept the life of Jail and learn to live amongst the crowd of broken and shattered souls, while other to seek freedom any way.
Madhur, the great story teller keeps you involved in the film from the beginning. The prisoners, their stories and reasons for their crime look real. Madhur narrated the key character - Parag - with great sharpness. Besides the jail life, the film also focuses on the legal process, which is quite informative.
However on the low side, the film gets repetitive with prisoner' s behavioral pattern and the legal headings. But still after the interval movie sees many twists and turns and gives grip to the film. At the end, the climax simply moves you. No matter how he does, but Madhur has the talent to hit the chords of your heart.
Dialogues by Raghuvir Shekhawat are taken from real life. Cinematography by Kalpesh Bhandarkar is first rate. However screenplay by Madhur Bhandarkar, Manoj Tyagi and Anuradha Tiwari is very much involving. The serious theme of the film doesn' t really give you chance to include songs, but Madhur has beautifully involved the three songs.
Neil Nitin Mukesh has given his best performance till date. He has thoroughly conveyed the mental state and anguish of an innocent man who is falsely taken as a guilty. He will be definitely rated amongst best actors this year. After a long time, talented actor Manoj Bajpayee one more time has given a memorable performance. Mugdha Godse played her non glamorous role beautifully. Also performance by actors Aarya Babbar, Chetan Pandit and Rahul Singh are top notch. Actor who played Joe D' Souza is outstanding.
Conclusively, Jail is a must watch movie. It' s a beautifully crafted movie by a great filmmaker. But due to its serious theme Jail might lose its audience for the comedy caper Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Meanwhile the one who has an urge for realistic cinema must watch the film.
