Aladin tells you story about a poor boy Aladin Chatterjee [Riteish Deshmukh]. A guy without his parents in the city of Khwaish is helpless and is a victim of bullies by Kasim [Sahil Khan] and his gang since his childhood. However his life changes when he meets the beautiful Jasmine [Jacqueline Fernandez], who presents him a magic lamp, where Genius [Amitabh Bachchan] is the genie of the lamp.
Genius is eager to fulfill Aladin' s three wishes so that he will complete his contract with the lamp. But in the process, Genus is only making Aladin' s life worst until the ex-genie Ringmaster [Sanjay Dutt] enters in to harm the poor Aladin. Why does the Ringmaster trying to hurt Aladin? What is the past of Aladin? Or what was the reason of Aladin' s parent' s death? And then you don' t understand why didn' t Amitabh revealed past of Riteish till Sanjay arrives.
The film starts with a bang, making promises that something good is about to come. But soon we got to know that Aladin is not different than those ordinary Bollywood flick which hits theater every Friday. Music given by Vishal-Shekhar is just ok. However the number of songs or the genie bursting into songs whenever he appears makes the film dull.
One more flaw of the film is that it is based on idiocy. We can expect such foolishness in a fantasy film but it didn’t keep you hooked. Although it is a fantasy inspired from a Hollywood film, it doesn' t visit the child within you. The director must have worked hard on the screenplay.
Why still one should go for it? The visual effect and performances by Riteish Deshmukh and Amitji. Riteish fitted well in the character. He enacted it naturally without any hard effort. He is best at his natural. One more time Amitji performed brilliantly. Sanjay Dutt was also good. Jacqueline Fernandez didn' t get much scope, but good on eyes. Actors like Victor Banerjee and Ratna Pathak are wasted. And what the talented actress like Mita Vashisht doing here?
On a final note, Bollywood is still not coming out of its famous formula and needs to try hard for different genres. Aladin is not up to expectations. Sujoy Ghosh, Sunil A. Lulla
