Turning his attention away or rather, sparing the comedy genre, Priyadarshan has now turned his attention to the action genre. We have only seen him make remakes of films from down south but this time, we suspect, he may have ripped off a few Hollywood films. However, all hopes are that there is something that may be watchable in this film.
Tezz also has Zayed Khan in it. Yes people, he is alive and unfortunately for us, still active in the film industry. Anil Kapoor is the lead in the film, which is surprising because off late, he had been making good money playing an extra in Hollywood films. Looks like he is back to Indian films, at least for a while. Ajay Devgn plays the villain. He has had some good luck at the box-office recently, but Priyadarshan can bring down stars like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn would be a cake walk for him. Let' s see what all Hollywood films has Mr Priyadarshan "remade"...
Aakash Rana (Ajay Devgn), an engineer in London, is deported because he does not have a work permit and has been staying illegally. His wife (Kangana Ranaut) and child are left behind. He vows to take revenge. After a gap of four years, he joins forces with Adil Khan (Zayed Khan) and Megha (Sameera Reddy). They plant a bomb on a bullet train going from London to Glassgow. They demand 10 million from the authorities. The anti-terrorism people get retired officer Himanshu Verma (Anil Kapoor) to handle the case. Also on the train is London cop Shivan Menon (Mohanlal). He tries his best to help the investigators. Will Aakash' s plan succeed or will he perish at the hand of the anti-terrorist squad?
The producers should take a refund from the writers of the film. Looks like all they have done is watched a few Hollywood DVDs and mixed them together. The producer should only pay them the value of the DVDs, nothing more. The screenplay is terrible. One cannot even feel connected to the character of Ajay Devgn. Probably because, he does not really have a reason to become a terrorist. Also, how can he lose contact with his wife. Hasn' t he heard of Skype or a simple phone call? May be, he wanted to lose contact with his wife. Who wouldn' t do that when their wife is the screeching and wailing Kangana Ranaut. Bad story, bad screenplay and worse dialogues.
Priyadarshan makes a complete mess of it. The story itself wasn' t great to begin with but his direction is the final nail in Tezz' s coffin. He gets some decent performances from a couple of the actors, but that wont be enough to save this sinking ship.
Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Boman Irani are the only ones who give good performances. The rest are bad. How Zayed Kahn still keeps getting acting roles is a mystery even Sherlock Holmes cannot solve. Sameera Reddy is pretty, a pretty bad actress is what I am saying. Kangana Ranaut plays the sad wife who is left behind in London. Her character weeps throughout the film and the audience will want to with weep as well after seeing her performance. Mohanlal, who is usually solid, is completely miscast. He does not look like a police officer, he looks like four police officers put together.
The music is bad. The background score by Sandeep Chowta tries hard but fails. The cinematography is good, especially the aerial shots of the train. However, after a while, they get boring as they keep showing them over and over again. Some of the stunts are good like the parkour sequences. However, the VFX in the film are comparable to the Doordarshan channel counter terrorism show, Aakhen.
The producer has spent a lot of money of Tezz and now he will be shedding a lot of tears as well. Bollywood keeps attempting Hollywood-style slick films but keep forgetting the even they don' t attempt to make a film without a good story, may be our filmmakers should try that.
Verdict: The only thing Tezz about this film is how tezz the audiences will leave the cinema screens.

Tezz is almost an exact copy of The Bullet Train and the makers did not mention it in credits. What a shame!
