Chhodo Kjal Ki Battein is a humorous but slightly preachy film about life. The story is unique and will definitely make you wonder. Rating: **1/2

Chhodo Kali Ki Battein, though is a Hindi film, the cast and crew of the film is completely Marathi. The only exceptions being Anupam Kher and Suresh Menon. Therefore, Hindi film audiences have a good opportunity to see some exceptionally talented Marathi actors. The film is slightly inspired form Groundhog Day. Though only a little bit of the plot is inspired, the rest of the story is original.

Running after money and not dedicating some time to himself or his family is Aditya (Sachin Khedekar). He is a typical workaholic guy, thinking only of earning a lot of money. One day, his wife and daughter go away for the weekend leaving him alone for the day. He has a terrible weekend and cannot wait for Monday to come. However, that does not happen. Owing to some weird miracle, the same Sunday keeps coming back.

Aditya is trapped. He wants to get out of this cycle but he is unable to do so. He meets a blind man, Benaam Kumar (Anupam Kher). He is exactly his opposite. Aditya gets a gut feeling that Benaam can help him get back to his life. They both set out to get the solution. However, on the way, Aditya starts to enjoy his life. He is a lot more relaxed when there is no tomorrow to worry about. He realizes all his mistakes and promises himself that he will change after he gets back. But will he get back? And who is this Benaam Kumar?

Yes, the story is slightly borrowed but the character of Benaam Kumar is new and not a part of the original. However, Anupam Kher does a fantastic job as always. The story moves at a good pace and there is no lull period in between. The humor is good. It is more in a lighter vein rather than ROFLs and LMAOs that we all expect from comedy films. However, there are few flaws in the writing. Choddo Kal Ki Battein tends to get a little to preachy in the end and there are also unable to justify the mystery around the character of Anupam Kher.

Pramod Joshi handles the role of director really well. Humor is not an easy subject to handle, but he does a good job. He handles the actors also really well. This makes the film an overall good effort on his behalf. However, he could have paid more attention to the small errors in the film.

Sachin Khedekar is superb. We have seen him play the common man roles many times, and he can sleep walk through such roles. That being said, nowhere has he played the character of Aditya in a clichéd manner. In fact, even if you are not really like him, you will see a bit of yourself in Aditya. Anupam Kher is good. Granted; the character of Benaam Kumar is a little hard to believe. May be that is what the writers and director wanted from him. The rest of the cast is also brilliant. Each eccentric characters will surely make you chuckle.

The cinematography is good in the film is in accordance with the story. The editing of the film is good as well. The production value of the film is also good. Though the film is not at all made on a high budget, it is still made well and is proof that one does not require expansive budgets to make a touching story.

The film will draw a decent enough opening but the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League) season will hurt it a but. However, audiences do love good films irrespective of cricket season, and this film is definitely a good one.

Rating: **1/2

Verdict: Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein is a welcome change from all the nonsense that has been peddled at the box-office in the past few day.
