Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl Review

Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma are hot property in Bollywood right now. Also, their on-again off-again relationship has provided a lot of fuel to the rumor mills. Therefore, any movie they do together will of course get a lot of media attention and that is what has happened to Ladies Vs Rick Bahl. It has received a lot of space in the media and the public is eager to see the film.

Another factor working in the favor of the film is the pairing of Ranveer-Anushka with director Maneesh Sharma. He was the one who had written Band Bajaa Baraat, but this time he is working as the director in this film. Therefore, there are a lot of hopes from this film.

Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh) is the perfect conman. He is handsome, a smooth talker and a master of disguises. His usual prey is women looking for their Mr. Perfect. He moulds himself into the Mr. Perfect image and swindles them for all their money. He does that with three beautiful girls, Dimple Chaddha (Parineeti Chopra), Raina Parulekar (Dipannita Sharma) and Saira Rashid (Aditi Sharma). He tricks them and gets away with it.

Stung more by the heart break than the money loss, the girls team up and decide to take revenge on him. Enter Ishika Desai (Anushka Sharma). She is a sales girl and brilliant enough to give it back to Ricky Bahl. He knows that she is conning him and she knows all about him as well, but the game continues. Will the girls get their revenge or will their plan completely back fire and Ricky will come out unscathed?

Are you getting the feeling of déjà vu? Then you must have seen Hollywood' s rom-com, John Tucker Must Die. If the feeling is even stronger, then you must have seen Bollywood' s Luv Ka The End. The only difference is that the title character played the role of a Casanova who breaks hearts. In Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, Ricky is a conman. Otherwise, majority of the film is quite similar. After reading the concept, you must have guessed what happens in the end.

The writing is good only in the first half. All the characters are well developed and they are also set up quite well. Each one is believable except for Anushka. There is a certain fakeness in her character that will make the audience wary of her. The dialogues are good throughout. However, all the good points of the film are let down because of the second half of the film. It is quite poor and predictable.

The story is such that the audience is expecting more after the excellent build up, but the excellent build up is what plays a spoil sport, and the audience will feel the second half to be even worse than it actually is. The writers should have paid more attention to the post interval show.

The direction by Maneesh Sharma is decent but again, the blame for the poor post break show must also be put on him. Though, in his previously written film, the climax is also predictable, the treatment of it was what had kept the audience interested. He fails to do that in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl . He has handled the actors really well, especially Parineeti Chopra, who is the debutante and also happens to be the cousin of Priyanka Chopra. However, he has not done justice to his muse, Anushka Sharma and left her character quite half baked and under established.

Ranveer Singh is proving to be quite a star. He will now give tough competition to Ranbir Kapoor. He has a certain charm that will either make you love him or hate him, there is no middle ground, and that is what makes him unpredictable and fun to watch. Dipannita Sharma is good and can certainly act despite being a model for so long. Aditi Sharma is also charming and her acting skills are up to the mark. The surprise package is Parineeti Chopra. Lookout Priyanka, your cousin might become your closest competitor. Anushka Sharma disappoints.

The music is already a hit, "Thug Le" and "Aadat Se Majboor" are major hits on the airwaves while the other songs are good too. Salim-Suliaman do a good job again. The cinematography and editing are also good. The production value is great. Nothing less can be expected from Aditya Chopra. Looks like he is hell bent on making Ranbir Kapoor pay for refusing Band Bajaa Baraat by making Ranveer the next big star.

Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl was promoted well and the crowds will flock to see the film over the weekend. However, the crowd will slow down after poor word of mouth publicity. Overall, it will make some profits for Yashraj Films but it will not go down in history as one of their better made films.

Verdict: If you are a Ranveer Singh fan, then catch this film purely for his performance. Parineeti is also worth watching out for.
