Another politician' s son is set to make his debut. Ramvilas Paswan' s son, Chirag Paswan, makes his debut in Miley Naa Miley Hum. This film is a romantic film that also stars Kangana Ranaut. Despite Rascals being a flop, Kangana is riding on a high. Most of her past releases have been hits and Chirag might be hoping she brings the same good luck to him. Miley Naa Miley Hum is supposed to be simple love story that will be enjoyed by families. Therefore, let' s see if this claim holds true.
Chirag' s parents, Siddharth (Kabir Bedi) and Shalini (Poonam Dhillon), are divorced ever since he was a kid. He spends one month living with his father and one month with his mother. Both his parents have successful careers, but Chirag (Chirag Paswan) still dreams of parents uniting and all of them together being a happy family.
His parents now want him to get married and both of them have already chosen a girl. Chirag' s father chooses Manjeet (Neeru Bajwa), who is his friend' s (Dilip Tahil) daughter while his mother chooses Kamiah (Sagarika Ghatge). To avoid this issue altogether, Chirag points out to a random model and tells his parents he is dating her. The model is Anishka (Kangana Ranaut). Both his parents approach her and ask her to leave Chirag alone. She is shocked because she has never even heard of Chirag. Surprisingly, Chirag tracks her down and offers her deal of sorts. In this whole hullabaloo, Chirag also has to prepare for a tennis tournament. How will Chirag manage all of this and his career? Will his parents ever come back together?
Well, they have called it simple but Miley Naa Miley Hum is quite a complicated film. Also, the billing that this film is a romantic film is also wrong because the romance portion in the film is small and half baked. This film is more inclined towards family drama. If all of this wasn' t complicated enough, a sports track is added to the film. There are just too many things that are presented to the audience.
The screenplay is inconsistent and mostly clichéd. Just by reading the story above you can predict what the ending of the film is going to be. The writers should have concentrated on one track rather than three. It is hard enough to hold the audiences' attention with one track. They could have shown the other two tracks in the backdrop of a main story. On the other hand, the two subplots with Sagarika Ghatge and Neeru Bajwa have been tied up well. The dialogues are good. Overall, the writers could have been bolder and changed all the clichéd and candy floss bits in the film.
The direction by Tanveer Khan is passable but he has taken on too many things onto his plate. Had he trimmed the story and concentrated on one storyline, the film would have been better. However, he displays good handling of Chirag' s pain of a broken home. Some of the scenes between his parents are really good. He has also gotten a decent performance from the debutante. However, there is a lot of scope for improvement.
Chirag Paswan makes a decent effort considering it' s his first film. He looks good but needs to fine tune his acting and dialogue delivery. Kangana Ranaut is good. She has come leaps and bounds from the psychotic roles we are so used to seeing her do. Kabir Bedi and Ponam Dhillon play the bitter ex-spouses to perfection. The scenes containing interaction between them are some of the high points of the film. Sagrika Ghatge and Neeru Bajwa do well in whatever small roles they have.
The music in the film is good. Though, only the item number in the film has become a hit, the other songs are good as well. Sajid-Wajid have been consistently delivering good music. Sadly, they are let down by the poor performance of the film. Cinematography by the veteran Baba Aazmi is good. Some of the frames are just breathtaking. The editing is also good. The film carries on with a good pace.
The production value is good. The sets and locations are quite great and improve the effect of the story. However, one part where this film has fallen behind is the promotions. Only the item number by Shweta Tiwari could be seen on various movie channels. Even the actors were not seen much promoting Miley Naa Miley Hum. This will hamper its business overall.
Miley Naa Miley Hum will suffer because of Ra.One' s presence in the theatres. Also, the lack of promotions will take its toll. The film might have done well had the story been more focused on one issue. The film has been made needlessly complicated.
Rating: **
Vedict: Miley Naa Miley Hum will not ensure that Chirag Paswan has a successful debut. This film falls flat due to a clichéd story and incomplete characters.
