What happens when two flop actors join forces and open a production house, the result is a film called Love Breakups Zindagi. This film is produced by Dia Mirza and Zayed Khan. Both seemed to have disappeared somewhere after a series of flop films, but they resurfaced announcing to the world that they are joining forces to start a production house. The first film they co-produced is Love Breakups Zindagi. Both the actors are in a desperate need of a hit film under their belt. Let' s see if this gamble has paid off or no.
Jai (Zayed Khan) is in a steady relationship with Radhika (Pallavi Sharda). However, Radhika is too dominating and Jai starts resenting her. Naina (Dia Mirza) and Dhruv (Viabhav Talwar) are also in a relationship but Dhruv is a workaholic and has no time for Naina. Jai and Naina meet at a friend' s wedding and start liking each other. Jai also has a friend, Govind (Cyrus Sahukar) who accompanies him to the wedding. Govind has been divorced twice, but still falls in love with Sheila (Tisca Chopra) whom he meets at the wedding. All these intermingling of lives result in many heart breaks. Will all of them find the right person? That' s what the film is about.
Sounds confusing? The film is a bit confusing with so many plots and sub plots. The director has too many balls in the air and the audience gets confused about whose story to follow. The film has a few scenes that the urban youth will really connect with, but on the whole the film is a little too clichéd.
The writer, Sanyukta Shaikh Chawla has devised a youthful story, but has made the mistake of having too many characters in it. She also could have showcased some other never talked about issues that the urban youth faces rather that the clichéd problems they face. The characters are too candy floss. The screenplay is also too long in the second half and the pace is quite slow. Some unnecessary scenes being written out would have reduced the length by quite a bit. The screenplay required better drafting.
The direction is good by Sahil Sangha. He shows promise in a few scenes and he is especially good at getting performances from his actors. All the actors have done a good job. However, Sahil has failed to present the story in a less confusing way. The story moves around so much that before the audience can connect with one character, another story begins. Also, the film is quite predictable and lengthy, plus there is no surprise factor in it. Sahil could have injected some harsh reality in it rather than keeping the film so goody-goody.
Zayed Khan, quite surprisingly has delivered a matured performance. The effort put in by him makes the character believable. Dia Mirza is good in a role that is tailor made for her. She fits the role perfectly and makes no mistakes in her portrayal of Naina. Cyrus Sahukar is the scene stealer. He gives quite a funny and endearing performance. He dominates the screen in the first half. In the second half he does not have much to do, hence, the film also drags a bit. His track in the film seems to be the most realistic and many urban people will connect with this divorcee still in search for love. The rest of cast is also good and play their roles well. The guest appearances in the film are also quite impactful and well incorporated in the script.
The music of Love Breakups Zindagi is quite hummable. The duo of Salim-Sulaiman has delivered the music well, but sadly the music was not well promoted or it would have been a hit. The cinematography is superb by Aseem Bajaj. He brings each shot alive and this keeps the audience from getting bored. The editing is good, but second half could have been speeded up.
The production value is good. The sets look lavish and go quite well with the story. The film has been promoted well and will get a decent opening. However, the audiences are wary of films starring Zayed Khan and may choose to stay away. There are some good points in the film but the bad ones supersede these good portions. The film would have been a good effort had the length been reduced and all the clichéd portions removed.
Looks like Zayed Khan and Dia Mirza will not make much of an impact with their first production outing. They should learn from Love Breakups Zindagi and come out with a better product next time.
Rating: **
Verdict: Love Breakups Zindagi is too candy floss and the most of the characters are sugar coated. Watch this film and you may be at the risk of getting diabetes.
