Sahi Dhande Galat Bande Review

Praveen Dabas has now taken up the megaphone and turned director. However, he has to face the jinx of actors turning director. Many actors have turned directors in the past, but none of them have succeeded.

Many actors misjudge the duties of a director and take up the mantle. What they do not realize is that other than just shooting the film, the director has many other duties. They have to be involved in all the departments of the film, and they are fully responsible for the fate of the film. Let' s check whether Praveen fully understand his role or no.

Rajbir (Praveen Dabas), Sexy (Vansh Bhardwaj), Ambani (Ashish Nair) and Doctor (Kuldeep Ruhil) are four friends. They have a leader named Fauji (Sharat Saxena), who hands them a job that will bring them so much money that they will never have to worry for the rest of their lives. However, the job is not a good one as they have to convince people from their village to part with their land for a development project. Their conscious troubles them and they try to make a mid-path that is beneficial for all. However, that plan fails and they now have to make a few tough choices if they want to succeed. Will they succeed? Will dupe their own villagers? That remains to be seen.

The story of the film is good. The timing is also great as fight against corruption is going on in full swing. In the film, there are also villagers shown as protesting through fast. Though, I doubt this has been put in the film deliberately as shooting for the film would have begun long before the Janlokpal Bill. It is just a lucky coincidence for makers.

The screenplay of the film is good. It has all the right mixture of different elements. However, in a few places, the film tends to drag and get clichéd. The real disappointment in writing is the conclusion. The writers could have been braver and given an unexpected and tame climax. Sadly, it all becomes undone in the end as your expectation rises throughout the film.

The direction from Praveen Dabas is good. Here is one actor who can definitely direct. He shows great skill in handling the film. The subject is quite a sensitive one and even many veteran directors avoid taking such subjects as it is hard to make the film that takes a courageous on these issues. Therefore, hats off to Praveen Dabas for taking on such a complicated issue. However, not everyone debutante director can make a flawless film. He too has committed a few errors, like the ending of the film, it leaves a lot be desired.

Performances are good. Praveen Dabas in the lead does a good job. Though, he does not have a tough guy image, he carries the role really well. The best part is that he avoids the temptation of putting his character in the spotlight. All the central characters are given ample scope and they make good use of it. All the rest of the foursome; Vansh, Ashish and Kuldeep fit the mould perfectly.

Kiran Juneja is brilliant in her portrayal. She brings the character to life. It is hard to believe that she is the same actress who played the sweet caring mother in Khosla ka Ghosla. Sharat Saxena also does a great job. Anupam Kher has quite a small role and one feels that he is wasted. The rest of the supporting characters do a great job.

The music in the film is decent, but there is an absence of chart busting numbers. It helps to have at least one or two good songs in the film. Many mediocre films have become blockbusters because of its music. The background score is also good. The cinematography and the editing are apt and add well to the film.

Sahi Dhandey Galat Bandey is good film that tackles the issue of farmers losing their land to industrialists for developmental projects. It takes on the issue and shows both sides of the coin really well. Just wish though the ending should have been different. Then the film would have been superb and would have catapulted Praveen into the big league of directors.

Verdict: Sahi Dhandey Galat Bandey will make a neat profit and will do well given the great subject and the good timing of its release.
