Lafangey Parindey Lacks Spunk!
Remember Parineeta, Laga Chunri Me Daag? Yes, the same capers that were handkerchief items and women centric.
Pradeep Sarkaar was the same person who did them. But with Lafangey Parindey he seems to have done a complete 360 role reversal. Role reversal as in changing the subject line of his stories and going for weird and catchy title like Lafangey Parindey deserves mention.
So, is his new outing, able to ignite the screen and set the cash registers ringing? Frankly speaking, LP has got its share of moments but does not raises the bar of Tapori style flicks, which Munna Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) has done so avidly that comparisons are sure to rife.
Another major flip that has gone against the film is the casting of Neil Nitin Mukesh in Tapori role. Must say, he does not even look like one.
Let' s talk about the basic plot of the movie in the words of Taran Adarsh.
Lafangey Parindey is about a group of youngsters living in the backstreets of Mumbai. It is the love story of Nandu (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and Pinky (Deepika Padukone).
One-Shot Nandu takes boxing to a new level by knocking down his opponents - blindfolded. Needless to say, One-Shot lives life on his own terms and is a local hero amongst his friends. But all that changes when he meets Pinky.
Pinky works at a mall, but is a kickass dancer on skates. Strong-headed, talented and fiercely ambitious, she aspires to rise above all the ' losers' living in her locality and carve a niche for herself. Two different personalities. Two different lives. Destined to meet.
Despite of boasting of a good plot, the writers have failed to capitalize on what could have been a major screen gem.
Blemishes? Yes, it has got its limitations but the half baked story and its equally lame execution fails to ignite the silver screen.
Talking of the performances, as earlier said that Neil was absolutely a wrong choice for the lead role, he fails to convince his own inhibition. He lacks the spunky factor to carry off the role with élan. A miscast indeed!
Deepika Padukone is the actor this film belongs and how! She is improving with every film. She does full justice to her role of Pinky. Full marks to her for pulling a role of such intensity so early in her career! Amongst other actors, Piyush Mishra and Kay Kay in a cameo do justice to their respective roles.
On the whole, the movie is a one time watch. Though the plot is predictable it is an engaging and an average watch.
From the box office point of view, given the Ramzaan period (Considered a lull period in film industry for movies to release) and a strong opposition in Peepli Live, the flick may not be able to lure the potential audiences to the theatres.
Catch the movie only if you are a big fan of Deepika else its better to miss it for better things to do this weekend.
Rating: **1/2
Verdict: Lafengeys fails to terrorize much and Parindeys flies low!
